I’m what you might call a “full-stack” or “generalist” data scientist. I do everything from:
- Working with business folks to figure out what problems need solving / scoping out solutions
- Finding and acquiring the necessary data
- Data engineering
- ETLs
- Data quality management
- A little bit of data governance
- Data analysis
- Data visualizations
- Presenting data / data “storytelling”
- Dashboards
- Creating data tools / products
- Modeling / machine learning
- Deploying, monitoring, and maintaining models
- Data-driven process improvement
- Operational “experiments” (a.k.a. AB Testing for humans)
- Teaching others about data
- Almost certainly some other stuff I’m forgetting
I currently work for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. For legal reasons, I can’t really talk about my work there beyond saying I do all the stuff above.
