Satoshi Nakamoto: Evidence Credentials Don't [Necessarily] Matter

To quickly share a realization I had, if your work is good enough credentials don’t matter at all.

Satoshi Nakamoto is recognized as the creator of Bitcoin, however no one really even knows who this person (or persons?) is. As such, they definitely don’t know what Satoshi’s “credentials” are: if he’s “experienced enough”, if he worked / studied the “right” places, if he has the “right” degrees, etc. None of that matters at all because the work stands on its own:

• If Satoshi was 8 years old, it wouldn’t matter because the work stands for itself
• If Satoshi’s name was Farty McFartface, it wouldn’t matter because the work stands for itself
• If Satoshi dropped out of high school to join a gang and later wrote the Bitcoin paper from jail, it wouldn’t matter because the work stands for itself

This is not to say credentials never matter, but that if your work is truly that good it won’t matter what your credentials are.

So if you’re going to stress about anything, stress about doing better work, don’t stress about if the “right” people will take you seriously.
