Check Out: FlowingData
For today’s post I just want to give a real quick shout-out to FlowingData. They have a lot of great and interesting charts / data visualizations on many different topics. Seriously, check them out!
Here’s the chart that reminded me of their existence and made me want to spread their good word:
(Ironically, this actually wasn’t a chart by FlowingData and was instead a chart by Andrew Mauboussin and Michael J. Mauboussinran that they shared.)
Few quick comments on it:
- It does a great job visualizing the inherent ambiguity in translating back and forth between probabilities and words
- It looks like you’re kind of screwed if you’re looking for a word that conveys ~40% probability!
- “Real possibility” could mean just about anything and therefore is basically meaningless as a word
